If home baked goods like cinnamon rolls, scones, pies and brownies make your stomach happy, then look no further than the Red Hen Bake Shop tent at the Greenfield Farmers Market each Thursday. Sue Veeder just loves to bake and adores sharing her baked items with local families attending the market.
Baker, who is a resident of Murray Road, just over the border into Milton, was pleased to become registered as a home baker with NYS Ag & Markets last year. Her specialty is small batch orders depending on her customer’s individual needs. She works by herself and keeps her orders small enough to be prepared in her own kitchen.
“I love to bake and retired last year,” Veeder said. “My husband Charles has been involved running the market for many years and he encouraged me to do this because it is a good fit.”
Her husband Charles Veeder managed the market when it was run by the Middle Grove United Methodist Church and is still a faithful volunteer today, now that it is managed by the Town of Greenfield Recreation Department.
Veeder said she named her baking endeavor “Red Hen Bake Shop” because she owns chickens at her home on Murray Rd. At her stand, shoppers can find traditional baked items like scones, cinnamon rolls, fruit coffee cakes and five-inch pies.
Visit her this Thursday at the market at Middle Grove Park, from 4-7 p.m. or contact her at suechef1@verizon.net or 518-934-1889 to make an order. She can arrange a spot for an easy pick up at your convenience.
