“CupKate’s” Owner Kate Therrien was a baking enthusiast even at the age of 10, when her mother would attend cookie exchange parties and allow her to make all the cookies. Now as a mother of three herself, Therrien finds artisan baking to be her outlet for creativity and a great business.
Therrien explained that CupKate’s began more than 10 years ago, as a passionate hobby of hers until after the birth of her third child, she decided it was time to get more serious about her baking. This summer she began selling at the Greenfield Farmers Market on Thursdays from 4-7 p.m. at Middle Grove Park. Her treats are, honestly, selling like “hot cakes.”
Kate’s creativity thrives when tasked with the most intricate of projects. Take, for example, the creation of a 50th birthday party “Friends” themed cake. The famous couch was constructed of rice krispie treats and modeling chocolate, and then carefully painted the detail with edible paint. This cake took Therrien approximately three hours and costs approximately $100.
Therrien brings an assortment of cookies and cupcakes to the Greenfield Farmers Market each week, where she sells out her inventory nearly every week.
“I love the Greenfield market because I see the same faces coming again and again,” she said. “I like that it is not as intimidating as a larger market and the people are having fun and relaxed.”
Therrien is no stranger to Greenfield, since she spent years as the former director of the YMCA after-school program at Greenfield Elementary School and her husband, Anthony, is the head golf professional at our municipal Brookhaven Golf Course.
She finds her business is the perfect business for her while she is raising her children ages 7,5 and 2 1/2. Cupcakes, cookies and cakes can be ordered by calling 518-470-0465 or by messaging her on Facebook @CupKate’s and Instagram at cupkates_toga.
Therrien spends about five hours weekly prepping her delicious, beautiful baked goods for the market each week. A cupcake costs $3.
