Richard "Dick" Rowland Inducted into Sons of the American Revolution
Weeki Wachee, FL – Mr. Richard “Dick” Rowland, formerly of Greenfield Center, NY, was recently inducted into the Withlacoochee Chapter of the Florida Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) at their December meeting.
Following an extensive review of Mr. Rowland’s maternal family tree and supporting documentation, it was determined that he is a direct descendant of Isaiah Whitman, a soldier who served in the New Hampshire Militia during the American Revolutionary War and fought at Ft. Ticonderoga.
The Sons of the American Revolution honors the patriots of the Revolutionary War by promoting patriotism, serving communities, educating and inspiring future generations about the founding principles of our nation.
Founded in 1889 and headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR or SAR) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to:
- Promoting patriotism: Fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for American history and the principles upon which our nation was founded.
- Preserving American history: Supporting historical research, preservation efforts, and the commemoration of significant historical events.
- Educating future generations: Providing educational resources and programs to teach young people about the American Revolution and its impact on our society.
SAR members actively volunteer their time and resources to their communities, including assisting veterans and supporting educational initiatives.
Rowland served as the long-time General Manager of the Saratoga County Fair and was a former Supervisor for the Town of Greenfield, New York. He and his wife, Joan, now reside in Weeki Wachee, Florida.
“It is with great pride that the service of my family has been recognized in this manner. As a child growing up in Greenfield Center, New York we were always told that our ancestors fought in the American Revolution,” said Rowland.
Rowland served in the US Army from 1970 to 1972 at Ft. Benning, Georgia. He was also recently elected Chairman of the Board of GlenLakes Veterans and Friends Association and serves as President of GlenLakes Estates Homeowners Association.
