Frosty Shave Ice Truck is Chilling at the Farmers Market

Don’t confuse this tasty treat with an ordinary snow cone. Shave ice is a frozen delicacy that is a Hawaiian specialty, with its fine ice shavings that are small enough to absorb every bit of the sweet syrup on top. There is no pooling at the bottom. Instead the soft, creamy texture rewards you from start to finish.

What makes “Left Field Shave Ice” special is the fact its 16 flavors of syrup are all natural, with no fake sweeteners, dyes, colors or processed anything. Owners Ken and Kelly Morgan of Wilton came up with the idea for this summer business seven years ago “out of left field,” a notion that was so random it inspired the name.  Kelly, a second-grade teacher, and Ken, who is retired, wanted to create a summer business that was unusual and that’s just what they got. The truck itself was a labor of family love. The couple, along with their two now college aged daughters, all worked together to fine tune the beautiful truck with its festive hanging lights, ice machines and colorful flavor bottles.

Kelly Morgan shared that the top selling flavors include “Tiger’s Blood” (Hawaiian-style fruit punch), watermelon, mango and lemon lime. “We took a lot of time to research how to make this treat all-natural, so it would appeal to more people. Its most unusual flavor is probably banana, Morgan said, and the newest flavor is “Pacific punch,” an orange pineapple flavor.

The Left Field Shave Ice Truck is a regular attendee at the Greenfield Farmers Market and attends the Spa City Farmers Market on Sundays at Spa Park in Saratoga. A regular shave ice treat costs $6. The truck is also available for private parties, school events, sporting events and corporate parties. To reserve, call 518-232-5876. You can follow @LeftField on both Insta and Facebook.

Morgan loves the Greenfield Farmers Market, where the truck resides each Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Middle Grove Park in Greenfield. “We love the sense of community in this small town,” she said. “People really seem to know one another and we love building our business with this special group of people.”

Stop by Thursday and welcome the “Left Field” to the TOG.
