Pitney Meadows Community Farm, of 223 West Ave. in Saratoga Springs, recently dropped off eight of its special Thanksgiving Harvest boxes to Greenfield Town Hall for distribution to families in need. The boxes were delivered by Recreation Director Jennifer Zeisler this week. Greenfield resident and family advocate Erin Webster arranged the new partnership.
Pitney Meadows is a 166-acre farm that is committed to food sovereignty and encouraging traditionally marginalized communities to participate in the local food system. The farm’s Thanksgiving Harvest Box Program allows families to purchase a $55 box of fresh, local produce to prepare a holiday meal. With each box sold, the farm donated a box to area communities to disperse.
“We are so thankful for community partnerships like this program with Pitney Meadows Community Farm,” said Town Supervisor Kevin Veitch. “We wish all of our Greenfield residents a wonderful Thanksgiving.”
Each beautiful box contained a list of what was included such as: Farm squash, perfect for roasting or adding to seasonal soups and casseroles. Sweet Potatoes, ideal for pies, casseroles, or simply baked. Potatoes, great for mashed potatoes, gratins, or a classic roasted side. Garlic – Adds rich flavor to holiday dishes. Onions , essential for soups, stuffing, and sautés. Carrots, crisp and versatile, perfect for roasting or a veggie platter. Kale, fresh, nutrient-packed, and ideal for salads or sautés. It also included a Thanksgiving card and some beautiful dried flowers to use on the Thanksgiving table.
In addition, Greenfield Food Pantry, operated by St. Joseph’s Church every Wednesday afternoon at the Greenfield Community Center, shared turkeys and many Thanksgiving Day items this week.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of the TOG.
