Supervisor Connects with Saratoga County Animal Shelter

Town Supervisor Kevin Veitch and his staff spent a morning meeting with County Animal Shelter leaders and staff this week.

Director Kelly DeVall and Veterinary Assistant Meagan Muller, who is also a Greenfield resident, provided the supervisor with an informational update about the shelter’s services, programs and needs, along with how municipalities like Greenfield can help.

“We are really thankful that Supervisor Veitch spent the time to get to know us,” said Devall. “This is how we get the word out. We are grateful for this kind of forward thinking.”

The group discussed what services the County Shelter provides its residents at low cost, like adoption, surrender, vaccinations, neutering/spaying services, “Trap, Neuter, Return” assistance for feral cats and more. The town agreed to help disseminate public information about event and programs at the shelter.

Meagan Muller has lived in Greenfield for 16 years.  “This is the most rewarding job ever,” she said. “When I leave at the end of the day I feel like I’ve made a difference in the life of an animal who doesn’t necessarily have anyone looking out for him or her.”

In addition to her role as director, DeVall has been a licensed veterinary technician for 40 years.

Looking to get involved? Want to learn more? Visit the shelter’s website here. They are always looking for volunteers (dog walking, cat/dog enrichment, kennel help, cat care, cleaning and administrative help). There is a needs list on the website and monetary donations are appreciated as well.

A couple of interesting tidbits?

  • An adoption event, “Blooming Bonds,” will take place March 23 at the shelter. Also, an Open House is coming up soon, which would be an excellent time to learn more and see all that the Saratoga County Animal Shelter offers our community. We will share more information as we have it!
  • Are you interested in adopting a guinea pig? Contact the shelter right away, as a large amount of guinea pigs are looking for adoptions this week! Cats and dogs are available for adoption today. Visit the website to see photos.
