TOG Receives Distinguished Service Award From the NYS Lions Foundation

GREENFIELD N.Y. – The Town of Greenfield has received the “Robert J. Uplinger Distinguished Service Award” from the New York State and Bermuda Lions Foundation (NYS&BLF).

Town Supervisor Kevin Veitch was present at the Greenfield Lions Annual Award Dinner last week to accept the award.

“We are so honored to receive this recognition,” said Veitch. “It is our pleasure to partner with Greenfield Lions Club on events throughout the year. The club is a very special organization that puts great effort into bettering our community. We are extremely lucky to have them.”

“We appreciate our town’s continued support of the club for the past more than 30 years,” Greenfield Lions President Andrea Penomora said. “They are always happy to help with whatever we need.”

This year marks the 30th year the town has sponsored the club’s Townwide Garage Sale, a two-day sale that last year featured more than 60 sales, the Lions Club food truck, a silent auction and tent sales from a number of local vendors.

The award is named for the Past International Lions Club President Robert J. Uplinger, who was elected to the association’s highest office in 1971. The NYS&BLF works in conjunction with Lions Clubs and other organizations to assist with service projects throughout New York State and Bermuda.

The Greenfield Lions Club serves both the Town of Greenfield and Corinth communities throughout the year with its many projects. Their many projects include such things as: plastic recycling campaigns; Brigham Park clean-up days; gardening and beautification projects; equipment purchase for the schools, town and fire department; youth sports sponsorship; high school scholarships; vision tests for children; and purchasing eyeglasses and hearing aids for those who need them. They have more than 30 members.

The Town of Greenfield is home to 8,200 residents in Greenfield, Porter Corners, Middle Grove, Lake Desolation and Maple Ave. It spans more than 41,000 acres of land bordering the Adirondacks and is the largest town in Saratoga County, by square mile.
